Row 2,876 miles across the Atlantic Ocean ? - 10 months & counting.....
Webmaster are proud to sponsor the Row the Atlantic 2009 Challenge and we will be giving regular updates as the fundraising and the event progresses. The Goal is to row 2,500 miles (2,876 normal miles) across the Atlantic and raise £100,000+ for Ataxia UK who fund research, support and provide services to those affected by the rare neurological condition called Ataxia.
The fastest time for this crossing in the Pairs class is 49 days,19hours and 8 minutes by Ben Fogle and James Cracknell - Spirit of EDF Energy in 2006 though many of the 15-20 teams will row much more than this due to currents/weather etc just to get across.
Richard Hume and Tom Barnes are taking part in the Woodvale Challenge Atlantic Rowing Race which starts 6th December 2009 in 1 self sufficient purpose-built Ocean Rowing boat.
